Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – November 13th 2020 Case name: 2020_11_13-AEG723 Situation: 50 people stranded in the Evros rivers, valuables stolen and violently pushed back to Turkey Status of WTM Investigation: Ongoing Place of Incident: Landborder Turkey-Greece Position: 41.68686, 26.43944 Summary In the early afternoon of November 13th Alarm Phone was alerted to a group of 50 people stranded on an island in the Evros river for six days. According to the relative who alerted us of the case, the majority of phones had been taken off the people by border guards; it was difficult to establish direct contact to the people in distress. At 18.18h CET the relative informed us that the group had been pushed back to Turkey and had been returned to Istanbul. The relative reported that the initial group had consisted of 85 people, according to his information two persons died due to injuries inferred by violence of both Greek and Turkish border patrols. We were not able so far to verify this information. The relative also reported that all money and the majority of phones had been taken off the remaining people by border guards. We are still investigating the detailed developments and will include potential updates into this report.
