Watch The Med Alarm Phone Investigations – 14th November 2020
Case name: 2020_11_14_WM526
Situation: 3 travelers from Bouyafar rescued to Almeria
Status of WTM Investigation: Concluded
Place of Incident: Western Mediterranean
Summary
On the 14th of November the Alarm Phone was alerted by friends of travelers to a jet-ski in distress carrying 3 people, which had departed from Bouyafar at 10:00h CEST. At 21:40h we informed the Spanish authorities, Salvamento Maritino (SM) Almeria who told us to contact the Guardia Civil Motril and Almeria. It was not possible to reach either of them. SM Madrid also said that they haven’t rescued a boat with 3 people. Throughout the night the authorities refused to give us an update on the rescues. On the 15th of November we received the information from relatives of the travelers that the Moroccan authorities claimed that the travelers have arrived in Algeria. MRCC Algiers did not seem to know about the case. It was not possible to establish contact with the travelers throughout all this time. At 19:48h we received a confirmation from relatives of the travelers that they were rescued by SM and arrived to Almeria in the afternoon. We also find a tweet confirming the rescue: https://twitter.com/Heroesdelmar/status/1328031037801238528.
