This one year project aims to make sure that no asylum-seekers, refugees or resident third-country nationals are excluded from protection, expelled from the EU or held in unlawful immigration detention with the abusive and arbitrary use of the national security argument, and that in such cases all those concerned can exercise their right to defence. By this, the project strives to find innovative responses to an acute need identified in Hungary, Poland and Cyprus, with a clear impact on European policy and practice. The project will combine a variety of methods, including evidence-gathering, domestic and European strategic litigation, as well as direct advocacy. The Hungarian Helsinki Committee is coordinating this EPIM funded project from January 2021 in collaboration with the Polish Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (Poland) and Kisa (Cyprus).
